Navigon GPS Application

I’ve been playing with the new iPhone GPS app, and I’ve got to say, I’m very impressed. I’ve been trying to find a good turn-by-turn solution and the Navigon one I’ll actually keep on my phone.

I had been using X-GPS East, which costs $40 and is essentially a broken mangle of confusion. I also used an open source alternative that would constantly download data from Google Maps to update itself. That software was also broken, to the point where the only feature that actually worked was the ‘Take Me Home’ button, so I’d just keep changing my default address when I needed to find a new place.

The Navigon app works well and has voice capabilities. I haven’t been able to try all the fancy thruway features, but I’m sure that my 12 hour drive back to Indiana will give me plenty of opportunities!

So I love my Kindle DX, it’s a pretty awesome platform. I was a little nervous about the copy protection thing. DRM is always bad and usually stupid, but someone has had a pretty scary experience that’s made me think twice.
